The Classic World portable "Caring for Our Pets" kit lets children become dog groomers and vets – all tools are in a handy bag.

This pet grooming play set contains 15 accessories for imitating daily dog care: washing, drying, combing, trimming and feeding. The set includes a dryer, brush, scissors, shampoo, bowl, food can, bag of food, bone, toy and collar. The pieces are made of wood and fabric, well crafted and safe. The handy bag lets you take the set along and tidy up easily after play. Caring for soft toys teaches children empathy and responsibility.

What your child develops

• Empathy. Your child looks after an animal's wellbeing.
• Responsibility. Grooming is a daily duty.
• Dexterity. Combing, trimming and feeding.
• Role play. Being a groomer or vet.

How to play

Take a soft dog or cat and play a salon visit – wash, dry, brush and trim the fur.

After grooming, feed the pet and give it a bone – and talk about caring for a real pet.
