The Viga PolarB hedgehog – 8 colourful screws in its back and a chunky screwdriver for a toddler's first DIY.

This adorable wooden screw hedgehog from the Viga PolarB range is an innovative construction toy that introduces toddlers to DIY. The game is to screw and unscrew eight colourful screws in the wooden animal's back using a screwdriver made for little hands. Kids need precision and patience to line the tool up with the slots – excellent dexterity training. Screws come in different shapes and colours, so toddlers learn to recognise them too. Muted pastels support focus and make the hedgehog a lovely room decoration. Made of eco wood with no sharp edges, in line with Montessori principles. Size about 15 cm. From 18 months.

What your child develops

• Hand-eye coordination. Hitting the slot.
• Fine motor skills. Turning the screwdriver.
• Patience and focus. Precise work.
• Colours and shapes. Different screws.

How to play

Let your toddler unscrew all the screws by hand first, then try with the screwdriver.

Put the screws back in a set colour order – red, blue, yellow.
