In the Woopie Green hammer game, your child uses a hammer and nails to fix colourful wooden shapes onto a cork board, making animals, plants and vehicles. 20 patterns and 82 pieces.

This wooden hammer and nails game is an educational toy for little builders. Your child can copy patterns from the cards or create their own designs from blocks in different shapes and colours. Ten double-sided cards hold 20 patterns at three difficulty levels, so the game grows with your child's age and skills. The pieces are wooden with rounded edges, and the manufacturer states the wood is FSC certified. The game is designed for children from 4 years, girls and boys alike.

What your child develops

• Manual skills. Using a hammer and tapping in nails trains fine motor skills and coordination.
• Creativity. Your child can design their own pictures and colour combinations.
• Logical thinking. Copying a pattern means analysing shapes and planning the order.
• Concentration. Careful work with a tool takes patience.
• Visual memory. Try recreating a pattern from memory without looking at the card.

How to play

Start with the easiest level: choose a card, find the blocks you need and show how to fix them to the cork board with a nail and the hammer. Stay close the first few times and help hold the nail. As your child gains confidence, move on to harder patterns.

To test memory, let your child study a pattern, turn the card over and ask them to recreate it. Or hold an "exhibition" of their own designs.

Why wood and cork

Nails go into cork easily, so even a young child can manage the hammer alone. The wooden blocks are sturdy, pleasant to hold and can be used again and again.
