The Woopie dinosaur shape game is a race of speed and accuracy: arrange the shapes exactly as the card shows and be first to ring the bell.

This shape matching game works for one child or two players. Solo, the child puts a dinosaur board in front of them, draws a card, copies the pattern and then takes the next card. With two players, the card pile sits where both can see it and the bell goes between the boards. When a card is turned, both copy the pattern as fast as they can. The first to finish rings the bell – if it is correct, they keep the card. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins. The game helps children learn colours and shapes and teaches healthy competition.

What your child develops

• Concentration. The pattern has to be copied precisely.
• Hand-eye coordination. Shapes go into the right spot.
• Fine motor skills. Small shapes have to be picked up and turned.
• Colours and shapes. Children compare shapes by colour and outline.

How to play

For younger children, start solo with the simpler cards. Once your child feels confident, add the bell and the race.

Parents can play with their other hand or give the child a few seconds' head start.
